About Les
The ocean calls me, and it rewards me every time with something unique to experience.  If you are alert, you notice that the ocean constantly is revealing a unique personality.  The weather, wind, tide, clouds and light combine to create a different emotion and atmosphere at any given time on any given day.

One of my favorite compliments is when long-time customers – from as far back as the early 80’s, reach out and thank me again for a painting – letting me know that they still appreciate it after all this time.   Sometimes people will say my work is too ‘photographic’ – but at the end of the day, I convey what I see through my eyes and I try my best to express that view and feeling in my paintings.

My work is located throughout the globe – across the US, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and many southern African countries.  My customers display my work in private homes, embassies, and on the walls of boardrooms and CEO’s offices of many large corporations.

People best know me for my pastel seascapes and fishing boat themed paintings, though being from South Africa, I also like to produce wildlife, cape architectural and landscape paintings.  I immigrated to the United States in 2001 and after a trip to the southern Oregon coast to gather source material for future paintings, my wife and I fell in love with this place.  We heard the call of the ocean and we responded by moving from Texas to Brookings, Oregon.  I can be found in my Brookings home studio, leisurely creating paintings that capture the coastal seascapes that I so much enjoy.  I have many repeat customers and readily accept commissions.  If you have a photo of the place you love, I’ll create one for your wall in oils or pastels.

We’re sure you will also enjoy this beautiful area of the country.  Visit Brookings, and I’ll help you take home a memento of the beautiful Pacific coast.
